Al Kalyk is an accomplished film director, photographer, and writer known for his unique stylistic vision and compelling storytelling. Born in a Croatian family in the suburbs of Sydney, Australia, and spending part of his childhood in Assisi, Italy, and adulthood in Los Angeles,, Al developed a diverse cultural perspective that deeply influences his work. He holds a BA in Fine Arts and Philosophy from The University of Sydney and an MFA from the American Film Institute Conservatory.
Al's creative journey has led him to exhibit his work at Carriageworks and film festivals worldwide. His projects have been featured in prominent publications such as Dazed, Forbes, Fader, HypeBeast, Art and Australia magazine, Vice, Financial Times London, Forbes, and Billboard. His video for “Cholo Love” reached the number one spot on iTunes.
Described as “a true stylist who is quickly announcing himself as an auteur,” Al was recognized among the six “New Directors to Watch” by MiniFlix TV upon his graduation from AFI.
Al has recently completed his feature narrative directorial debut, "Cruel Hands” slated for a 2025 release.
